First Dentist Appointment

Mmmm! Nothing like starting off the morning with some homemade bread and natural peanut butter.After a hearty breakfast, we headed out for Elijah's first dentist appointment at Children's Dentistry.When I saw the pictures of this place online, I knew it was going to be the perfect spot to take Elijah. We talked about it a lot, read a book on going to the dentist, and got dressed for the big event. The entire office is a castle!!!; Elijah, of course, had to wear his knight outfit. He made a little friend in the waiting room. She said, "OK. I'm the princess. I'll go hide in the castle and you come rescue me!" We haven't quite arrived at the Damsel-in-Distress portion of our Knight study, so I just quickly told Elijah he needed to go protect her. I'm not sure he was quite up to par with the little girl's expectations of being rescued~;-)The teeth cleaning went great. Everyone there was so nice and seemed to know just how to make Elijah feel comfortable. {As a side note, the iron in a children's multivitamin can cause black plaque-like buildup along the gum line. Rather than assuming you are the most unhygienic, least loving mother, just go get the iron scraped off your child's teeth. Then, follow your pediatrician's recommendation and ditch the vitamin.}

After that fun kick-off, we went to Grammie & Grampa's for a Graves Family Christmas. Elijah called Uncle Matt on his way there and asked if he would be a knight too.In true Christmas spirit, Uncle Matt did not disappoint.Grammie got her Christmas groove on with Elijah.Elijah and Uncle Matt called a truce as bedtime was fast approaching.Look - the kiddos got some matching cousin pajamas!We had a little Happy Birthday Jesus dessert party.Then it was off to bed as we awaited our last Christmas 2009 celebration.

Christmas in South Carolina - Part 3

Mom treated us to the Edventure Children's Museum the day after Christmas. We had such a great time there! Much of the museum was just at Elijah's level, but there is much more to be explored as he gets older. Daddy climbed the water tower with the kiddos.This anatomical playground with "Big Eddie" was a little too much for Elijah - too big, too scary, too mysterious. I, on the other hand, thought it was super neat.The toddler play area was probably our favorite thing. You not only were able to drive the boat; you could catch fish off of it!Elijah commandeered the wheelbarrow from another play area and hauled all the building blocks onto the ship. What can I say? The kid wants to be a farmer (he told us tonight).Haven had fun playing in the bird's nest.Mombo had her fair share of good times - diaper bag in hand~:-)Elijah and Eric were able to do the evening weather report. This might have been fun for Elijah...if he had ever seen a weather report!Oh, wait! This may have been our favorite thing. Elijah got to pick vegetables and fruit from the farm - clearly, right up his alley!We played a winter version of skee ball.Elijah drove the snowmobile a few times.Ice fishing!OK, this might have been our favorite thing. Elijah LOVED being able to push around his own cart and pick out his own grocery items. I think we ended up with a lot of meat and a lot of donuts from our Piggly Wiggly visit.
After eating at one of my favorite pizza places, we made a quick trip to Riverbanks Zoo. The gorilla exhibit was fascinating.I loved this little aquarium bubble when I was little.Sunday we went to church and then did a lot of hanging out at home.Thanks for a super fun Christmas vacation Mom & Dad!

*Given MawMaw's recent poor health, these pictures are a reminder of what a blessing it is to be able to spend time with those I love. We were very blessed this Christmas - not just with bountiful gifts, but with precious family time and moments in which we reflected on the birth of the Son of God. Mom & Dad, thank you for all your efforts towards making this a wonderful Christmas.
